Music and Theatre: An indissoluble relationship
As far as we know, the ancient Dionysian rites that gave rise to the performing arts as we know them today, at least in Europe, combined music and theatricality. How has performance art evolved around these two poles throughout history? What is the current scene on the stage? Where is the boundary between what is considered text theatre, performance, musical theatre and opera? Are these classifications useful? These are some of the questions we will be asking in this course, which aims to offer a historical and panoramic view of the performing arts in relation to music, investigating contemporary theatrical and musical productions that move at the inflection point between the purely theatrical and the purely musical, while offering tools for participants to become aware of the theatrical and performative potential of their own projects.
Aimed at: Musicians of all disciplines interested in learning about and incorporating theatrical and performative elements.
